Statewide Enterprise Computing with the Purdue University Network-Computing Hubs

چکیده
The Purdue University Network Computing Hubs of Indiana, or PUNCH(I), is an Internet-based software infrastructure under development that enables students and faculty at all Purdue campuses in the state of Indiana to use and share unique computational resources. It leverages an existing software infrastructure, the Purdue University Network Computing Hubs (PUNCH). This paper explains the need for a statewide computing system, describes the environment in which PUNCH(I) will be used, outlines the requirements and the goals of an enterprise-wide computing system, and describes how they are met through PUNCH. Key transaction types (in addition to document delivery) supported by PUNCH are described and their performance is discussed.

Peer-to-peer applications (P2P) are no longer limited to home users, and start being accepted in academic and corporate environments. While file sharing and instant messaging applications are the most traditional examples, they are no longer the only ones benefiting from the potential advantages of P2P networks. For example, network file storage, data transmission, distributed computing, and co...

PUNCH, the Purdue University Network Computing Hubs, is an infrastructure for network-based VLSI CAD and TCAD that allows users to access and run existing software tools via standard world-wide web browsers. Tools do not have to be written in any particular language, and access to source-code is not required. The PUNCH infrastructure is geographically distributed, but this is transparent to use...
متن کاملOn the Design of a Demand-Based Network-Computing System: The Purdue University Network-Computing Hub
Many of the systems that currently allow computing on the web target speciic tools. Such solutions tend to be non-reusable in spite of the fact that they involve a signiicant amount of duplicated eeort. This paper describes the issues involved in the design of a demand-based network-computing system, and presents an operational prototype (the Purdue University Network-Computing Hubs, or PUNCH) ...
